The enemy uses shame as a tool to bring fear, silence, condemnation, insecurity. Shame releases the impulse to flee and hide. Shame becomes a wall between us and the Father.

"Shame on you" is a CURSE and it has no place in the believer's vernacular.

📣 We are called to speak life to a broken and hurting world.
📣 We are called to speak encouragement to our brothers and sisters in Christ.
📣We are called to proclaim the truth of God's Word to everyone around us.

When we choose to speak #nothingbutJesus, we are choosing to speak grace.

💖 The lost need grace.
💖 Believers need grace.
💖 Every person waking this earth right now - whether I believe they deserve it or not - needs grace.

Paul, imprisoned for his faith, had a lot of time

Paul, imprisoned for his faith, had a lot of time to write letters. He could have chosen to write anything. But in this 2nd chapter of his letter to the Philippians he chose to showcase an attribute of Jesus that isn't a very popular virtue these days.

HUMILITY.

Jesus exemplified humility. He took off His crown. He set aside His own comfort. He gave up His royal rights. He endured the harassment of "haters", public humiliation and mocking, the excruciating pain of crucifixion.

There was no place for self-centered pride in His pursuit of Kingdom purpose. He took on MY guilt and shame, the heaviness of MY sin --- all for the joy He knew was coming on the other side of the cross.

Pride says, "This isn't my problem. Sorry, you're on your own. Hope everything works out."

Humility says, "I love you enough to walk through this so you can find freedom."

Pride says, "But what about my rights?"

Humility says, "I will give up all that is rightly mine to see you find healing."

Pride says, "But what's in it for me? "

Humility says, "I will do whatever it takes, whatever the cost, for you to experience the love of the Father."

It’s a weird time we’re living in. We can focus our eyes on all the negative, but Paul encourages us to choose another way. The Jesus way. “Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus . . . “ Philippians 2:5. Humility. Leaning into the Father. Choosing the eternal perspective. Finding delight in obedience to Him. Being content with what God has blessed us with.

My reading plan had me in Psalm 73 today. It always amazes me how the Word speaks to me exactly where I am. Quite a few verses jumped out at me, but I'll leave this one here for today.

I have been getting so sick of social media. Yet it's my job. I can't just quit. I'm responsible for the bulk of the social media for the church and I have my private group for pastors' wives. Quitting social media is not an option right now.

Yesterday I poured out my heart to God, expressing my feelings, my overwhelm, my weariness, and other things that only He would understand because I barely understood what I was saying myself.

I needed a perspective change. This time yesterday I was desperate for Him to move in me. Knowing we had a night of worship and prayer in a few hours, I cried out for help.

And He responded. I don't even know what happened. I don't know what He did, but I emerged from my room changed.

As I read this Psalm today, I recognized it as the explanation of what He did.

It seemed hopeless until I placed myself at His feet. I'm so grateful for how God hears me and listens to me and responds to me. I'm so grateful He graciously allows me to see from His perspective so my perspective completely changes.

It's in His presence that I am changed. It's in His presence I find the answers for questions I don't even know how to ask. It's in His presence that I'm comforted and refreshed and made ready to take the next step.

God is good. God is faithful. God is able.

So challenged by this quote in the leadership podcast I'm listening to: "We need to make holiness great again. The best thing I can give [my] church, and my family first and foremost, is to be so captivated by Jesus and so receptive of His grace that holiness is the outflow." Derwin Gray
Setting aside all other agendas to focus on Him, allowing His voice to drown out every fear, every doubt, every fleshly opinion, every thing I cling to as "my right", takes intentionality and perseverance, and it's not easy. But God's goal is transformation: to become more and more like His Son.
Holiness is not a popular teaching. Religion twists it into something very different from what God intended. But as the above quote implies, holiness is a natural response to a deep relationship with Him.
Lord, let my heart be open to all that You are leading me into. Let me be utterly captivated by You and the grace You freely offer. Let me respond to Your grace without offense, trusting in Your ways over my own. In Jesus' name.

David is so relatable! Sure he was a king and a celebrity in his day, but he faced the same things we all face.⠀

He faced relational struggles the same as we do. People weren't always the nicest and treated him badly. He frequently felt overwhelmed by the "bad guys".⠀

I love how he processed everything with the Lord. And I love how the faithfulness and goodness of God ultimately triumphed in his thoughts.⠀

He KNEW His God. He was able to confidently stand on His promises because he trusted God's character.⠀
⠀
The Psalms are so familiar to me. So familiar that it's easy to overlook what they mean to me. I am loving soaking in the simple yet profound truths laid out in these chapters and seeing them with fresh eyes.⠀

The Psalms are truly a manual of "How to Have an Intimate Relationship with God" and I'm so glad this is where He led me to read in 2020!
